About Us

Welcome to Dixie Primary, a private practice specializing in Internal Medicine as well as general primary care in St George, Utah. We are dedicated to providing our patients with the most caring and compassionate health care in the industry. We take a holistic approach when treating our patients and blend both western and eastern style medicines.

We believe medicine should be an integrative approach of disease prevention and treatment, through exercise, proper nutrition / healthy diet and stress control. We recognize that the current practice of medicine involves a lot of testing and prescription medications. We encourage all of our patients to be proactive in taking care of their general health by developing a genuine desire to continue to stay well. We support them by minimizing medications and using our clinical acumen in doing only the appropriate tests. We offer an understanding of wellness and will always stress patient education and provide educational tools to avoid disease.

Grace Paradela, M.D.

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine

Dr. Grace Paradela completed her medical studies in the Philippines. She graduated magna cum laude in BS Medical Technology as a pre-med degree and was a four year full time scholar at Cebu Institute of Medicine. She had an additional year of internship at the Philippine General Hospital which served as the biggest tertiary care center for the entire country seeing over 1000 patients daily. She worked in multiple rural areas of the country doing pediatrics, minor surgery, family practice and OB-gyne. After fulfilling residency in Internal Medicine in Atlantic City Medical Center in New Jersey, she moved to St. George in 2002 and has been in the area ever since. She has been practicing acupuncture since 2006 and greatly values the integration of both western and eastern disciplines. Dr. Paradela is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians. She enjoys family time with her husband and her two sons, poetry, photography, karaoke, shopping and reality TV.

Mrs. Stacy Sumpter, NP-C

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Board Certified Nurse Practitioner

Mrs. Stacy Sumpter, NP-C began her nursing career in 1994 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Nursing from MaryCrest International University in Davenport, Iowa. Living in a rural community, she had the opportunity to work in multiple areas of Mercy Medical Center including OB-gyne, Labor and Delivery, Intensive Care Unit, Medical-Surgical, Home Care and Hospice and a Surgical Clinic. Seeking more autonomy, Stacy expanded her education earning a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa and became a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 2005. Stacy is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau-Pi Eta Chapter. Stacy is married and has three wonderfully active children. Together they enjoy boating, trail riding, hiking and all of the outdoor activities that Southern Utah has to offer.

Helen McMahan1 About Us

Helen McMahan, C-FNP

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Board Certified Nurse Practitioner

Helen McMahan graduated in 1975 from the University of Utah, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Over the next decade she worked as an RN in the areas of pediatrics, emergency departments and critical care units until she returned to the University of Utah and received a Master’s degree in Nursing in 1987. For the past twenty five years she has been practicing as a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.

Her areas of interest have been family practice, urgent care and internal medicine. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings. In 1987 she was the clinic manager of a Salt Lake Community Health Clinic where she supervised medical staff and provided care to a medically underserved and homless population. When she relocared to the Southern Utah area in 1991 she provided primary care to all age groups in rural medical clinics. In 2001 she was sponsored by a NIH Grant and the University of Utah to organize and run four separate clinics on the Paiute Indian Tribe. She served as preceptor and clincal supervisor of nurse practitioner students for many years. For the past twenty years she has been providing urgent care to visitors and locals at Brian Head Ski Resort Medical Clinic and the Zion Canyon Medical clinic. Her real passion has been internal medicine and she has been privileged to be part of the Dixie Primary Care Clinic since February, 2011.

Helen is married, has one son, two dogs and enjoys living in Springdale, Utah next to Zion National Park. Her passions include canyoneering, hiking, running with her dogs, gazing at the canyon walls from her backyard and watching her husband do yard work.
